The design of the Bunya Centre Day Surgery seamlessly integrates modern healthcare needs with the area’s rich heritage. The architectural team, led by Jacobs Architects, partnered with Louvreclad to ensure high-quality, environmentally conscious solutions. Louvreclad’s Polaris Series perforated aluminium screens feature a picture perf image of Bunya pines, a nod to the local landscape, creating a striking visual feature on the building’s end walls. These custom panels were powder-coated in a tone that complements the existing brickwork of the heritage buildings, ensuring that the new addition respects the site’s history.
Louvreclad’s technical expertise was crucial in the development of this project. The design of the perforated panels was refined to balance both the aesthetic resolution of the Bunya pine image and the functional aspects of solar shading and privacy. Louvreclad’s engineering team collaborated closely with Jacobs to adjust the punch size and open area to achieve the desired design intent. The vertical sun blades, fabricated with Polaris Series perforated aluminium, are supported by robust aluminium sub-framing, ensuring both durability and efficiency in shading.
In addition, Louvreclad’s Hudson Series 300 louvres were used to address acoustic concerns in mechanical plant rooms, reducing noise levels to avoid disturbances for patients and surrounding residents. Jupiter Series performance louvres were also incorporated to provide optimal airflow and ventilation to specialized areas such as the bike store and medical gas rooms.
From early contractor involvement to precise execution, Louvreclad’s role as the nominated specialist louvre contractor ensured a smooth and efficient process. The established relationship between Louvreclad and builder Hutchinson Builders led to quick project mobilization and seamless coordination. Louvreclad’s commitment to quality, precision, and innovation guaranteed that the project met both the technical and aesthetic requirements, delivering a successful outcome that enhances healthcare infrastructure while respecting the surrounding heritage.
The Bunya Centre Day Surgery is a significant milestone in the ongoing development of the Toowoomba Hospital campus, supporting the region’s future healthcare needs. By combining expert design, engineering, and implementation, Louvreclad’s contributions ensured the success of this project, providing a sustainable, functional, and aesthetically pleasing facility that honors both modern healthcare standards and historical preservation.
